Artist Rationale

My artistic journey delves into the intricacies of cultural identity, futurity, and the ever-evolving dialogue between past and present. Through a diverse array of methods and mediums, including vernacular photographs, painting,  and portraiture, I aim to encapsulate the essence of individuals, particularly women, with “Afrocentric” backgrounds. Portraiture is at the heart of my work, serving as a canvas to represent and explore my subjects' cultural identities. While my pieces may be focused on individuals, the messages conveyed and the personal experiences depicted resonate universally. The struggle to navigate multiple cultures and the quest for self-identity are shared human experiences. In my artistic research and practice, I endeavor to shift perspectives and rewrite narratives, moving away from outdated stereotypes about Africa as a stagnant continent. By honoring traditional cultural practices and infusing them with new forms and technologies, I invite viewers to reimagine a future where heritage is preserved and celebrated.
